Sixth Form at the
International School of Madrid
Key Stage Five: 16 - 18 years of age
With the IGCSE results in hand, pupils then confirm their choices of A-Levels. Advanced Level studies are equivalent to the Spanish 1º and 2º Bachillerato, and take place in the final two years of school. The British A-level courses are highly personalised and allow students to tailor their studies by choosing subjects that best suit their interests.

What is Sixth Form?
The final two years of school are often referred to as ‘Sixth Form’. Sixth Form is designed to offer students a pre-university experience. Treated as young adults, students are given greater freedom and learn to take greater responsibility. They are encouraged to have high expectations of what they can achieve and to work to the best of their ability in order to secure places in the best universities around the world.
Students at ISM regularly outperform their UK and international counterparts. However, the focus isn’t only on academic success. We want our students to become well-rounded individuals and go on to become good citizens of whatever countries they choose to live in. We want them to develop the skills and attributes that will allow them to excel in the modern world.
Class sizes in Sixth Form are small, with around 9 per class on average, and each student has access to a personal tutor. In addition, pupils receive high quality careers guidance and personalised support with the university application process.
Why are A-Levels so highly
regarded?
A-Levels have long been regarded as the ‘Gold Standard’ of pre-university qualifications. With a wide range of subjects available, but no compulsory subjects, students are free to choose the combination that will best suit and motivate them. Each subject is examined and graded separately, allowing students to select their best grades when accessing universities.
The courses provide students with deep subject knowledge and, as such, provide excellent preparation for university. However, in addition to this academic excellence, A-Level courses are designed to foster the skills of creativity and collaboration, so vital to success in today’s world.
A-Levels are recognised and highly regarded across the world, meaning that that our students are able to enter universities in the UK, Spain, the USA and a wealth of other countries.

What can be studied at ISM?
At ISM, students will usually choose 4 subjects from the wide range that we offer.
Spanish studies are also part of our Sixth Form provision at ISM, thus helping our students to be even more fully prepared for the next stage of their academic journey. Spanish curriculum options, PCEs, allow students to gain maximum points for Spanish universities.
In addition, pupils may sit the Cambridge C1 (Advanced) and C2 (Proficiency) English language exams.
